Unless you have been living in a cave you will have noticed a lot of e-mails and discussions about GDPR. You have probably been asked to reconsent to a hundred mailing lists, 99 of which you won’t remember signing up to in the first place. GDPR goes a bit further than simply making sure you only get the emails you ask for. It places responsibilities on the companies that hold data and gives control to the people who the data is about.
Here at IAND we are in the business of ‘data’. The platform gathers data on your contracts, your suppliers, your finances, your performance and you. We keep it in a safe secure place until you ask for it. We then give the data back to you in ways that provide you with the insight and control that allows you to improve your projects and your business. We are always looking for new ways to show you useful information to base decisions on.
Like everywhere else, here at IAND we were concerned that the burden placed on us by GDPR would be significant. Instead we found that the new regulations matched what we already did. We have always thought that personal data should belong to individuals and that we have it on a trust basis. We always knew that we had to look after it carefully and make sure that it was only used in ways that were understood and expected. We even felt that if somebody wanted to know what we were holding then we would have to tell them, and would do so happily.
It is not that we haven’t had to do a bit of work to tidy up our policy documents, but we haven’t found it difficult because we haven’t had to change our approach.
